Supporting LBGT Americans: My Thoughts on the matter.
Honestly I wasn’t going to partake in this support day. I didn’t wear purple. I’m not fond of Tumblr going purple without any type of donation cause behind it. I actually hate the color purple.
But in the matter of people committing suicide because of their sexual orientation, I find it sad and uncomprehending to know that their are people out there that are so scared of being what they are that they’d rather experience death than continue going on with life.
My friend came out the closet to me, and I have to admit I was less than supportive in the beginning. But now it’s whatever. Everyone has a right to be into whatever it is that they are into. Sexually, I’m into some weird stuff, so who the hell am I to judge what the fuck others do. Now me and that friend are closer than ever because now he can confide in me and actually talk about whatever it is that is on his mind.
I think it’s not about the judging what someone is anymore, I think it’s the overwhelming amounts of disappointment and despair that drives folks to this. But sadly I can’t say that can change over night. If I have children and they tell me that they are gay, I’d be heartbroken (whether it is a boy or girl) because that’s just the way I am. But would I ever want to drive my kids to suicide before they tell me… well of course not.
It’s not an easy road, the african american struggle has shown us this. But if we are to stop the violence, the hate, and the discrimination then we all need to make a change. And I don’t believe in the would tolerance either. It’s about understanding. The more we understand each other and the more we come to accept each other the better our world will be, and this me on some sentimental “save the gays” type shit… this is just real talk.
